Aerial Photograph
A black and white aerial photograph of Teslin Lake, YT, as well as the Teslin lake flight strip running parallel to the ALCAN Highway. The image is mounted on a hard cardstock. On the top left and right corners of each image, are holes that may have been intended for hanging these images.
This image was taken by the US army air force for the purpose of photographing military used airstrips in the Yukon.
With the United States entering World War II, the U.S. Army began construction of the Northwest Staging Route through Alberta and the Yukon, building the Alcan Highway (Alaska Highway), modern airports along the route, and a state-of-the-art air navigation system. Up-graded airports included Watson Lake, Teslin, Whitehorse, Aishihik, Burwash and Snag.
