A framed colored photo of a truck hauling ore from Faro to Skagway. These trucks were commonly known as “Muffin Trucks”. Frame is silver metal with a wire for hanging.
Haakon Arntzen would have had this photo when he was employed by the company, possibly hanging in his office.
The Faro mine was opened by the Cyprus Anvil Mining Corporation in 1969, which was formed to mine a large lead-zinc deposit. From the late 1960s until 1982 the mine was one of the largest lead-zinc mines in the world. Curragh Resources purchased the property in 1985 and production resumed in 1986. This time, ore was trucked in ore pots from Faro directly to Skagway, bypassing the railway. This operation ended in 1993.
