Asbestos Bag ;Asbestos Sack
A rectangular shaped plastic bag intended for holding and hauling raw asbestos. The bag is a translucent plastic, made from a thicker polyethylene similar to the consistency of a tarpaulin (tarp). On the sack, printed in a burgundy color, is the logo for the Cassiar Asbestos Corporation LTD. The bag is designed to carry up to 100lbs of product, and seals at the top.
This bag is unused. However, its intended purpose would be to haul raw-ore asbestos from Clinton Creek, YT.
From 1967 - 1978, Clinton Creek was an active asbestos mine about 100km NW of Dawson City, YT, located on the traditional territory of the Trondek Hwechin. The mine was operated by the Cassiar Asbestos Corporation LTD. The townsite of Clinton Creek grew to around 500 people, made up of families of the mine-workers. The townsite had a recreation hall, a school, church, houses etc. Many folks in the Klondike region remember growing up and going to school in Clinton Creek, YT. The mine has long since ceased operations, with focus now on land remediation.
