Two buff coloured paper envelopes with post mark, one stamp, and no address. A 12 cent Canadian stamp containing a Canadian flag is affixed to the top of the envelope and it is postmarked Dawson Creek 15 11 1992. The envelopes are also stamped with the official Alaska Highway 50th Anniversary logo. The envelopes are printed with the coloured version of the Anniversary logo, and “Opening Ceremonies, February 15, 1992” and "OFFICIAL SPONSOR, MAIL/POSTE, Canada Post Corporation / Société canadienne des postes.
These envelopes are Event Covers celebrating the Alaska Highway 50th Anniversary. Collecting Event Covers is a popular hobby among philatelists. These covers were collected by Raymond Strand, who was one of the people who signed the envelopes, and the husband of the donor.
In 1992, the 50th anniversary of the Alaska Highway was commemorated, marking half a century since its establishment. The Alaska Highway, also known as the Alcan Highway, is a historic road stretching over 1,390 miles (2,237 km) through the wilderness of Alaska, British Columbia, and the Yukon Territory. Constructed during World War II, the highway served as a vital supply route for the military and played a significant role in the development of the region.
