Guide Book
Book titled “Plan-a-flight to Alaska: a complete flight guide to the Alaska Highway” by George R. Crowe and Deloris Dee Crowe. Includes a plastic bookmark listing Highway Miles and Airway Distances between towns in Yukon and Alaska.
Was owned and used by Robert Emmett (Bob) Cousins.
Bob was born in Vancouver, BC. At a young age he joined the Canadian Army which brought him to Edmonton, AB where he met his true love, Edie. Together they moved to Whitehorse, YT in 1954 to raise their family. His legacy to the Yukon is the design and building of Cousins Airstrip in 1964, used by many as a flight training field today.;This is a very practical guide to flying small planes in Yukon and Alaska written by an obviously experience pilot. The author admonishes pilots:
"First and foremost, do not consider, for one minute, flying the back country unless you have at least one hundred and fifty hours and are proficient in slow flight."
and
"In some areas of Alaska one sees what appears to be "grassy plains" from the air. No attempt
should be made to land on this brushless, level land because the surface is tundra or muskeg. A landing on this type of surface will have disastrous results."
