Tundra Helicopters was founded in 1973 in the tundras of Fort Smith, Northwest Territories, thus inspiring its name. The company was set up to run charter-flights for surveyors, outfitters, loggers, and tourists in need around the area, a role it continues to serve into present-day. The Fort Smith base was departed in 1983 though, as new management under Steve Harrison led to a relocation at Langley, British Columbia, leading to the description seen in the Transportation Museum’s hat-exhibit. Since those days, Tundra has expanded to encompass the Yukon, Canada as a whole, the United States west coast, and even Mexico, making it a truly international organisation. Yet, ever changing, Tundra has left the Langley base for Watson Lake, giving Yukoners a stake in the company’s operations. Sub-bases exist in Atlin as well as Dease Lake, both in British Columbia, together offering southern Yukoners and northern British Columbians a service for any of their transport-related needs in the vast bush found throughout, up until today
