Green baseball cap with a white logo reading "Buffalo Air" under a plane across the front
Perhaps the most widely-known of any smaller airline featured on these caps, Buffalo Air was launched in 1970 by Bob Gauchie running a fleet of World War Two-era, piston-engined aircraft around the Northwest Territories, namely Hay River and Yellowknife. Over the decades and under the later ownership of Joe McBryan (aka Buffalo Joe), Buffalo has stayed true to its original mission, though it has also grown to offer services to Alberta, with a large maintenance facility in Red Deer. Famously, Buffalo became the focus of the reality-show Ice Pilots NWT in 2007, with associated merchandise to go with the notoriety. In 2011, a Buffalo Air DC-4 was chosen to reenact the Dam-Busting Mission from the Second World War, given that it had just the right aircraft for the job. Just one year later, Bruce Dickinson, singer for the band Iron Maiden, flew on Buffalo between Edmonton and Yellowknife. As of 2015, the airline has ceased passenger-services, but continues as a cargo and equipment delivery company. After over 50 years of flying, only time will tell Buffalo Air’s future
