Unlike the other services highlighted through these caps, Transport Canada does not operate aircraft (for everyday passengers anyway), but regulates them! As a Federal Department based in the capital, Ottawa, since 1935, Transport Canada develops regulations, policies, and services for road, rail, marine, and air transportation across the country. Regarding that last point, aviation licenses and airport-functions fall under their domain; a Canadian license-holder or airport-employee both answer to standards set out by Transport Canada. On the higher-level side of affairs, Transport Canada led the privatisation of the country’s airports during the 1990s, highlighting its authority as well as resolve. Even visitors to the Yukon Transportation Museum have likely felt Transport Canada’s reach; they oversee the Canadian Air Transport Security Authority (l’Administration canadienne de la sûreté du transport aérien en français), which runs the checkpoints within the country’s airports
